Our Story

Black Women's Voices (BWV) was founded on August 27th, 2020 on the campus of Ball State University located in Muncie, Indiana.

What started out to be a playful conversation between eight young Black women soon turned into a serious discussion centered around the issues Black women have faced and are currently facing today. Black Women's Voices is an organization geared towards the empowerment of Black and Brown women especially on a Publicly White Institution (PWI). We are a support group providing aid to those in need, amplifying the voices of our fellow sisters and never backing down from starting the uncomfortable conversations that many sweep under the rug.

Since 2020, BWV has hosted a plethora of events that are focused on enhancing our community! We have organized various donation drives, volunteered and coordinated marches and collaborated with various organizations on and off campus!

As of 2023, Black Women's Voices has transitioned away from solely being a college organization and is now a non-profit organization rooted and ready to serve the state of Indiana. Our goal is to take what we have learned from our past experiences and use that as a stepping stone for new opportunities and ways to touch as many lives as we can through our undeniable love of service!
